We started Kids Division in between COVID lockdowns in 2021, not knowing we were about to go into another significant lockdown.
At the time, I noticed my children were anxious about re-emerging into school. I wanted to offer them something that could help re-socialise them, build their confidence, provide a creative outlet, and most importantly — allow them to have fun.
Our drama, music theatre classes and private singing lessons for younger children were simply called Kids Division, as it was the “kids” arm of my teaching business.
I wanted to create a place like my own golden memories growing up — attending band practice, drama classes, orchestra, choir and festivals. It was a place where I felt I belonged, where I contributed, had fun, and grew within a collaborative environment. I wanted to offer that same experience to my children and others, while also employing some of my brilliant students and sharing their knowledge.
What began as a small upstairs studio above a mechanic in North Melbourne has now grown into our current creative studios in Flemington. Over the past five years, the program has grown — and so have the students.
We now have students who joined us at 9 years old and are still training with us at 14, developing into thoughtful, detailed actors and singers. Our classes have evolved alongside them — from foundational skills to more complex work in acting, vocal technique, harmony, blocking and movement.
As the program has grown, we felt it was important that our messaging reflected where we are now.
We are still a place for fun, collaboration, confidence and creative exploration. But we also now clearly represent the depth of training we offer — a strong technical foundation, high-quality teaching, and a focus on developing independent, free-thinking performers rather than simply following instruction.
The program itself hasn’t changed — only the way we communicate it.

As many of our students return each term, we come to understand what they have learnt, what they need to continue growing, and what material they have already covered. We begin with a year-long plan for each class; however, as the year progresses, the program is adapted to suit the individual strengths, needs and interests of the students enrolled, allowing each cohort to develop in a meaningful and responsive way.
-
Yes. While each term has its own focus and term outcome, there is an overarching technical plan across each class. This ensures consistent progression and the development of a strong technical foundation throughout the year.
-
Yes. We welcome students of all abilities and aim to provide a supportive and inclusive learning environment. We support shy or beginner students, creating a safe and encouraging space to build confidence and explore creativity.
-
We do not offer technical dance classes. Our programs are designed to develop the singer/actor, with movement integrated into our Music Theatre classes. Our space is designed as a versatile rehearsal environment that supports focus and creative freedom, and we have consciously chosen not to include dance mirrors.
-
No we don’t have any holiday programs currently scheduled for 2026.
Please keep an eye on the website for Summer of 2027.
-
No. There is no uniform. Students are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing that allows for movement and expression. All classes involve physical activity, including movement, games, stretching and improvisation, so appropriate clothing is essential. Closed-toe shoes must be worn at all times. Costumes are not required for performance outcomes. We aim to keep costs low for families. Some students may choose to incorporate elements from their own wardrobe to support their performance, but this is entirely optional.

If we have capacity at the time of your enquiry, we will happily offer a one-off lesson for last minute audition or performance preparation.

While our staff all play piano, none of our teachers are dedicated accompanists. If you require technical feedback, vocal styling, acting-through-song guidance, or general audition preparation and coaching, we can absolutely assist. Should you need an accompanist, we can recommend several excellent professionals.
-
While Music Theatre is a wide stylistic umbrella and covers an array of contemporary vocal styles, we are happy to include jazz and popular music repertoire. While singers will be supported to explore these styles safely, our teachers are not jazz or pop specialists. Should this be your preferred focus, we are happy to refer you to our trusted contemporary voice teachers in Melbourne.
-
Yes — our leading drama teachers are excellent coaches for acting auditions. Arranging a mutually suitable time, you will be offered a 30/45/60 minute one-on-one acting session where you can prepare the audition material. Our staff can assist with filming and being your reader.

While we understand that illness and unexpected commitments can arise, we offer one make-up lesson per term to minimise disruption to student learning, reduce ongoing schedule changes, and ensure consistency for both families and teachers. This structure also allows us to provide our teachers with a stable and reliable income. One exception to this process is when you know in advance that you or your child will miss a class due to a school camp, performance, or prior commitment. Notification must be made prior to paying your term invoice.
This approach allows families to avoid paying for lessons they cannot attend, while also helping us minimise empty class spots and ongoing make-up lesson scheduling.

No, we don’t. However, as we are recognised as a leading school for vocal and performance training, audition briefs are regularly sent to our studio.
